Nailing the auditioning!
Keep playing big kids.
Shakespeare once wrote ‘All the worlds a stage, and men and women merely players. They have their exits and their entrances; and one man in his time plays many parts.’ Shakespeare nailed it on the head. Unfortunately, as adults, we loose the gift of playing. We are so stuck in our heads and our whole entire body is caught inside a thick crust of layered habits, that our inner child, which created worlds where we flew on dragons and hid in caves made of blankets and chairs has almost disappeared…actors MUST KEEP PLAYING. By allowing your inner child to run wild, play, and play with others, you are freeing the mind and body to do what it was born to and in-turn ignite the imagination and jump into the role that your auditioning for. EVERY-TIME! Yes, you are probably thinking, ‘I’ve heard it before, I’ve done a thousand improvisation workshops, I’ve committed to animal work by going to the zoo and mirroring the chimpanzee’s’. This is not playing, this is working. Actors need to spend time everyday playing, go to the beach and make a huge sandcastle with a fort, make paper planes and have a throwing contest with workmates, get out your old Lego figurines and bring them to life using different voices for each character, play knock and run in the rain. Allow yourself each day, and even if it’s only for 15 minutes to play. Keep your inner-child ALIVE!
